My secret card recipe:

Patterned paper with similar stencil behind a bold flower!

altenew, secret card recipe, Nicki Hearts Cards, card making, stencils

First, I used the “Feeling Dotty” stencil to emboss the background of this card. Next, I added strips of patterned paper from the Essentials Black & White pack. For the flower, I used the Gardenia layering set and created 2 layers with Sunkissed and Orange Cream. Extra details were added with colored pencils. All that was left was to add some texture with metallic thread and sequins!

  1. What a great idea, using a stencil to add dimension and use a coordinating paper, fantastic!.

  2. Great video! I love everything about your card and learned a lot of fun tips! I like the way you added color with the orange pencil!

  3. Your card is beautiful! I have so much patterned paper, it’s not even funny. I will take any and all tips to use it. Thank you!

    1. Thank you! I am planning some more videos in the next few months because I have a ton that I need to use as well!

  4. This video was chock full of ideas. I love coordinating the patterned paper with a coordinating die/stencil. But also really appreciated your tip about using twine to add texture…I never know how to make that look natural, but will be giving your tips a try.

  5. Thanks for sharing your beautiful card! I love how you coordinated the dotted paper with the dotted embossing.

  6. I just love this card. I love everything spotty, so using dots for the background to offset the black and white spots on the lovely DSP, is just fantastic. The glorious colour of that flower really pops on top of the black and white. The added thread and sequins just finish it off perfectly. 👏

    1. Thank you so much! I really appreciate you taking the time to comment. You definitely made my day!

  7. This card is so pretty!! I love how you added the texture and additional color to the flower with the colored pencils.

  8. Pattern paper always scares me, and I’ve never tried embossing with stencils. So I now have plan for my next play in my craft room!
    Thanks for a great video!
