Stretch Your Nesting Die Sets
Hi, everyone! Today, we will be working on an advanced card making technique but it can be adapted for any level of card maker. This project is for my Altenew Educator Certification in level 3. The inspiration for this card was from Therese Calvird @lostinpaper, who teaches the class on 3D dies. Make sure to check out the YouTube video for all the details.
Let’s get started with the stamp and die set. I loved the nesting label dies and wanted to find a stamp that would cover these and still have some parts that could be hanging over the largest die. This paint-a-flower rose was the best fit.
Next, I stamped this image using my MISTI on 3 different panels. Each panel needs to be exactly the same, so I started with 4 x 5.25 panels. Then, I stamped them all in exactly the same place.
Die Cutting:
Next, I cut the panels with the nesting label die cut being very careful to line everything up correctly. I used a T-ruler and post-it tape to keep things in place before die cutting.
I used a tip from @lostinpaper to cut the smallest and largest piece from the same panel.
Coloring:
Here is what my pieces look like once cut. Next, I colored these images with copic markers being careful not to waste time coloring places that would not be seen on the card.
I did this by layering the pieces while coloring. After the coloring is finished, this card is almost complete. I needed to add the sentiment. I used the MISTI for this task as well.
Next, I used my thinnest foam tape to pop up each layer being careful to line them up.
Last, I added some clear sequins and backed the bottom layer in jet black card stock.
