Ink Smooshing Card

Let’s look at ink smooshing today. I have created a YouTube video of the entire process, so make sure to check that out. This card is part of my Altenew Educator Certification level 3. Laura Bassen was the teacher of this clean, simple and colorful card making class.

Start with watercolor paper. For the colors, I advise making some swatches to decide which colors you want to use. Next, stamp the background with many butterflies, this is easiest with a stamping tool. I used my MISTI. I set these images by heat embossing in clear.

Once the panel is finished and heat set, it is ready for ink. I used Altenew ink pads for my color and scrap pieces of stamp packaging.

Once you have the ink on the plastic, add water to achieve the color you are wanting. Next, smoosh the color onto the panel.

I repeated this with 2 other colors.

Next, I added some shimmer spray to the enter panel then set it aside to dry.

You have options on how you want to make the butterfly. I chose to stamp it and heat emboss it on a separate piece of watercolor. Then, I repeated the ink smooshing technique with 2 colors.

While I waited on these panels to dry, I heat embossed the sentiment onto jet black card stock. All that was left to do, was to put the card together. The butterfly was placed over a swirl of metallic thread. Last, the embellishments were added for some extra sparkle.
