Creative Ways to Use Your Embellishments for Card Making

In the world of card making, it’s easy to fall into the trap of hoarding embellishments. We’ve all been there – collecting buttons, ribbons, and sparkly gems with the intention of using them for that perfect project. However, more often than not, these embellishments end up sitting in drawers, untouched and forgotten. In this blog post, we’ll explore the importance of using (not hoarding) embellishments for card making and share practical tips for incorporating them into your projects with purpose and creativity. Make sure to watch the video for ALL the details.

For the first card, I embraced the “use what you have” philosophy. Instead of constantly buying new embellishments, challenge yourself to use what you already have in your stash. Take inventory of your embellishment collection and brainstorm creative ways to incorporate them into your card making projects. You’ll be surprised at how many hidden gems you’ll uncover when you start digging through your supplies. I am starting with some rainbow pearls and gems on the 1st card.

To make using your embellishment easier, start with the embellishments and design the card colors to match. I knew I wanted to use my rainbow embellishments, so I created a coordinating rainbow background.

Next, I mixed and matched pearls and gems to create a frame around the sentiment. What do you think?

For the second card, I hide embellishments so they don’t have to match the project perfectly.

Creating a shaker card is the best way to use embellishments and they are always a crowd pleaser. Use vellum to disguise the embellishments that don’t match the project. If you have embellishments that match, you can create a shaker card with clear acetate.
