Hi, everyone! Welcome back to my blog. Today I will be sharing my project for the Altenew Educator Certification Program Level 2 challenge (part 1). The goal is to make 4 masculine cards using techniques I learned in my classes. All of these classes helped advance me as a card maker but I am going to focus on 3 classes for this post.

Card #1: Ink Blending & Stencils

Let’s start with the first card. On this card, I used a technique of removing color through a stencil. First, I ink blended the background with distress oxide inks in chipped sapphire, prize ribbon and tumbled glass.

Next, I placed the stencil over this piece and used a damp paper towel to remove color from the panel.

After the background dried, I used the technique of splattering water on the panel. While this water was still wet, I added gold embossing powder and heat set it. Once the back panel was finished, I need to add the pattern paper and gold strip on the side of the card front. Last, I added the sentiment “you are awesome” and put some metallic gold thread behind it to add some extra shine.

Card #2: Different Shape & Heat embossing

For the 2nd card, I used the stripes in the tie dye motif set to create an alternating patter of navy and gray on the front panel. I cut this on an angle and added it to a navy card base with a strip of gold foil card stock. To create the sentiment, I cut “hello” from navy card stock and heat embossed the lower half of the word.

Next, I affixed the hello to its vellum shadow. Finally, I attached the sentiment.

Card #3: Layered Heat Embossing & CAS

For the 3rd card, I wanted to layer heat emboss the tie dye stamp. This is a layered stamp, so I decided to use navy, gold and silver embossing powder for the tie dye element. I wanted to the keep this card clean and simple so after the stamped image was heat embossed, I added some metallic gold spatter to break up the white.

After the splatter dried, I mounted this on navy paper and added the sentiment.

Card #4: Stamped Background

The last card involved making a stamped background out of the tie dye stamp. To start this background, I used a ruler and pencil to make the center of the paper. I stamped the center design and worked out from there. After I stamped the first image, I used the Altenew retractable eraser to get rid of my lines then continued stamping the rest of the images.

After the background was finished, I worked on the lower 3rd of the card. I wanted this to use heat embossing to make a pattern on navy paper. I heat embossed the design with gold embossing powder and started working on the sentiment. For this card, I wanted a larger sentiment so I cut out “happy” from gold foil card stock. I added 2 layers of thick white card stock behind it to give it dimension.

Finally, I heat embossed the word “anniversary” on a piece of navy card stock and added it to the sentiment.
